More and more smart managers are marketing their restaurants by recognizing and playing off the ego gratification stage of Maslow's theory to their guests. Think of the tremendous ego boost for who patronizes a restaurant and the following scenario occurs. The guests are greeted by name by the host when they enter the restaurant. "Good evening Mr. and Mrs. Suarez, welcome to TRU." As they are being brought to their table by the host, she is having a friendly conversation with them, talking to the about the restaurant and their jobs. Once Mr. and Mrs. Suarez are seated, they are handed individual menus. When the Suarez's open up their menu to look at the dinner selections, the first item at the top of the menu catches their attention. In bold letters, at the top of the menu they see:" Mr. and Mrs. Suarez, Welcome to TRU." Wow, what a feeling! With today's computer technology and printers, it is possible for a restaurant owners or managers to welcome their gusts by putting the guest's names on the menu. if restaurants have a pre-printed menu, this technique can be used on a daily basis. Please Discuss three of the following questions- 1. What is you ego and how does food come into play? 2. have you ever seen this on a menu? 3. I personally feel that printing menus per customer is a bit wasteful: what about menus on tablet's? Would that be more effective? Would you like that idea better? 4. How would you feel if you walked into a restaurant and this was the situation?

1. I dont really care much to be recognized at the restaurant, and this kind of "ego-boost" wouldn't play a big role for me. It's kind of nice, but it would not be the reason why i would or wouldn't go to that restaurant. I more care about quality of food, service and ambiance. 2. Yes, we had a "happy birthday, Liga" printed on the menu when went for dinner. 3. I think it's a pretty good marketing idea, and it works well, because people like to be recognized and being treated with a special attention, so printing a different menu everyday, probably will cost a restaurant something, but will also bring in more business, and thats what all restaurants want. 4. I would probably not care much about it. If i like the restaurant, I'll go there anyways.

2. No, I haven't but I have heard about it. There are some top five restaurants make the surprise to very special customers by putting the guest's names on the menu. 3. It would be more effective to put menus on tablets for me. I would prefer using the regular menus by adding a space that I can put names of customers in front of the menus unless your restaurant have budget for tablets. 4. I would feel so great. I would appreciate in that situation that I'm so special for them. I'll be a great tipper at that time.

Personally,I don't see this kind of marketing before but I think it is not neccessary much that we have to put name of each customer on every menu.It makes customer feel so exciting and grab attention at first and it is not wasteless if service is poor and food is bad. If we like customer to impress the way we remember their is just persuade servers recognize their name when they make a reservation or greeting which makes customer feel warm , friendly and welcome. ;D

1. If I come to the restaurant regularly and I know the owner or staffs there and I go there on for my special occasion e.g my birthday, printing my name on the menu can make me feel so good for sure. But if it is just my normal day, I think they arefaked. 2. I have not seen this on a menu. 3. According to your opinion, I agree with you. If your restaurant is big and on each shift you got many guests, I think it is kind of wasteful to print menus per customer. This idea is more effective if they do with regular customers on their special occasion. It is very impressive to guests. I used to work in a restaurant that made something like this and it works. They printed the birthday lady's name on every menus in the party and this made others think she is special to the restaurant and the birthday lady so happy too.

2. No, I haven't seen this situation before.
3. Printing menus per customer is very useful for full service restaurants but not for the regular restaurants.
4. I would be very surprise, but it doesn't matter if the service, quality and taste of food is very bad.

1) It really does not matter if the Host knows me by name or not. This is because I do not like a lot of attention on me, I would feel a bit awkward. I rather like to be served in a good friendly, efficient manner and left alone when I want my me time. 2)Nope have not seen my name splash out on any of the menus in my life. hahaha.. but would be cool to see once!!! ( not made by my friends). 3) I like the idea of going green at times.. also shows the awareness globally, so writing on the tables or specially painted chalk boards.. would look nice.. 4) I would like it once but not always..
